News on the Farm !

This week was my Spring Break !  Mom and I took a break from training and spent lots and lots of time out on the Farmstead.   Things are coming up everywhere along with the trees blooming.  Many new smells and things to explore.

During Spring Break I got to do things my Mom doesn't let me do normally.  The first one Ruthie gets to do all the time and my Mom yells at my Dad for letting her do it.  Dad calls it pre-wash.  Mom caught Dad letting us pre-wash so she grabbed the camera but said after Spring Break is over - NO More !!  After pre-wash Dad and I were put in Time Out to think over what we had done.  I kind of liked it because Dad got down on the floor with me and we snuggled for a while.

Also during Spring Break this week Ruthie, me and Mom went on lots of walks at the lake.  Didn't run into any of the new friends we met last week but still had plenty of fun walking the dike, swimming in the lake and digging in the sand.   Mom says I have become quite the swimmer and stick hogger.  This week instead of having to stay in the mud room to dry off we got to stay out on the deck so no nice candles.

On Friday Mom and Dad had some exciting news to share with Ruthie and I.  Instead of us getting in the car and driving to the lake for walks and swimming we will now have a house at the lake.  It will be a month or two before they get the house but everyone is sooooooo excited !!!  Ruthie knows about lake living already - when they picked her up to raise as a Service Puppy they lived on the lake.  They moved to the Farmstead when she was about a year old.

Friday was my two legged sister Meghann's Open House launching her new web site and vintage clothes.  She will be blogging like me about exciting happenings in Omaha along with selling her vintage clothes on-line and in her loft studio.  Mom and Dad didn't let me go because they said they would be staying out past my bed time however Mom said she would take me there sometime for a training outing.  Aunna my other two legged sister came to the Open House and they went out for sushi after the Open House while Meghann went to the Omaha Fashion Show.

It is the weekend and we spent almost all day outside yesterday.  We even had dinner outside.  Mom and Dad got out the big green machine and mowed the yard which is 3 of the 16 acres they live on along with hauling stuff down to the tree line.  Ruthie and I would follow dad on the machine and help.  Mom cleaned flower beds and trimmed plants.  I tried to help her several times by walking all over the beds trying to spread out the mulch but she didn't seem to appreciate it.   She chased me away.

Towards the end of the day we all took a break before going in.  We went out to the barn and looked around.  It had been closed up for the winter.  Mom and Dad got out the rockers and relaxed on the front  porch of the barn.  I heard them say work out of the Farm is never done !  I don't think though they are doing to spend much time out there today because I heard Dad say he is taking a break and going for his first bike ride out on the bike trails.  He said I can't come because he bikes too fast for me to keep up.

Happy Spring Break to Eveyone !!

Maybe it is Summer in Nebraska

What can I say !!  It has been in the 80's all week ?  Many walks and outside adventures with Mom and Dad.  Some training moments - some of which went OK and others were a challenge.

At beginning of the week Mom took Ruthie and I over to the lake twice to walk the dike and swim in the lake.  The water was kind of cold so Ruthie and I also did some sniffing and digging instead of swimming the whole time.

Tuesday, Mom and me ran some errands.  It was in and out of the car four times with the last one being my favorite place Hy-Vee.  Mom I think was a little frustrated with me since I still get car sick and put up a stink getting in the car.  I am up to her tricking me with treats to get in so right now she is lifting me up and putting me in.  She is not a happy camper about that.  I also deposited my breakfast in the back seat right when we drove up to the house.

Wednesday was my Grandma Keuter's birthday so me, Mom and my two legged sister Aunna went out to lunch.  I did leave my breakfast where it should be but left a deposit from the other end after lunch out on the lawn.  Mom had her pink bag and picked it up grossing out my sister.   Mom couldn't find a trash can so it was left in the back seat with me.

I didn't do very well with down/under the table.  Mom finally let me down/stay next to her chair and I did better.  We had a couple of people stop and talk to us and Mom let them pet me but I had to stay down.  One of the servers just would not leave me alone and was making it very hard to down/stay.   I just don't understand this down thing and why it is so important.

After lunch Mom, me and Aunna went to a grocery store to help Aunna pick up some groceries.  If you don't remember she fractured her ankle last week and is wearing a soft cast.  Mom thought it would be a good training moment too.  Aunna road in the electric grocery cart and I went along with her.  We helped her load her groceries in her car then left with Mom forgetting the sack of groceries she bought out in the cart in the parking lot so when we got home we loaded up again and had to go back.  I didn't want to get back in the car but the good thing about it was Ruthie, me and Mom headed to the lake afterwards.

Friday started out with something Mom called fog ?   When Mom let us out in the morning for "Hurry up" Ruthie and I almost got lost.  Mom couldn't see us - which meant no pictures of private moments - and was yelling at us to come in.  I liked the fog.  Ruthie and I played 'Hide and Seek"  Later in the day Mom took Ruthie and I back to the lake for a walk on the dike and some swimming.  This time around though we got to meet some new friends.  They were everywhere !!  Some big ones like me but there were some really small ones I have never seen before.  You had to be careful not to step on them.  We all swam in the lake, chased the sticks and balls in the water and on the dike along with much sniffing and some digging.  I hope we run into them again sometime when we are back out at the lake.  They were FUN !  I even heard Mom say one of them was Ruthie's old boyfriend.

It is Saturday morning and another Holiday ?  St Paddy's Day.  Mom said she needs to find Ruthie and I something green to wear so we won't get pinched.  Not sure what that is but Mom said it would hurt.  While waiting for Dad to take us out this morning Ruthie and I wrestled around in the living room.  Mom finally said enough is enough and separated us to our  own corners.

Spring in March ?

I have never been around for Spring since I was born in the Summer but the air smells different now and funny stuff is coming up from the ground.  At the beginning of the week Ruthie and I went for two walks at the lake and we got to swim again. I was a little nervous when Mom threw out the first stick for us but Mom said" it is like riding a bike - you never forget"  Not sure what a bike is since I have never ridden one ? but I did great at swimming.   I even tried to jump off of the boat loading dock after a stick but it wasn't a pretty sight.  I kind of fell and jumped at the same time.  Ruthie was laughing at me.  Mom said we smelled when we got back home so we had to spend time in the mud room drying off.  Mom was soooo nice to light some candles for us and make the mud room cozy.

Wednesday Mom and me stopped at the grocery store to pick a few things up after she had to go to Bellevue where my Daddy works.  Mom's days for three weeks are kind of up in the air.  She has Jury Duty from March 5-23.  Mom has to call each morning to see if she has to report.   The first day Mom went in was Thursday.  I asked if I could go but she said I don't down/stay good enough to go to something this important.  Mom wasn't gone long. She was dismissed after she was asked where my Daddy works and she said he was an attorney that practices in this Court.

Thursday my two legged sister Aunna come over.  She is sooo sweet and nice to me.  She is quite the fashionista and her and Mom were working on a new Web site for her to sell her vintage clothes.  I tried to tell them that I already have a web site and know the skinny on how things work but neither of them understand puppy talk. I was excited and wanted to look for something for me on the web site but Aunna said she only sells people clothes.  Maybe she should expand her line to include things for four legged buyers. Before Aunna left she tried to show me how to spruce things up and put some earings on my ears.   I have another story about my sister coming.

Friday Ruthie and I got to walk the back fields with Mom to go get MaeMae for their walk.  We did the same thing again on Saturday after we were finished with Dad and farm chores.  But back to Friday.  Mom and me left after lunch to go to an indoor Mall for training.  Mom thought she should give me a pink pill before we left since it was going to be a drive to get there but things didn't work out like they should.  My breakfast was left in the back set of the car.  Mom put that Gentle Lead thing on me and I protested however she would trick me with treats and since my stomach was empty I decided to cooperate.   Mom did one thing she said she has never done with a service puppy - she gave me two bites of her ice cream.  She felt sorry for me loosing my breakfast.  I shared my water with my Grandma before she realized it was the cup Mom was using to give me a drink.  I told Grandma I didn't have any cooties.

We were heading home from our training outing when Mom got a call and it was my two legged sister Aunna.  She was leaving the doctor's office with a fractured ankle.  She hurt it the night before playing soccer.  She has to be on crutches with a soft cast for at least three weeks.  We stopped and picked her up and helped her get her cast.  Mom didn't let me go in her apartment because she has two kitties and even though I love kitties they probably would not like me.   I gave Aunna kisses when she was in the back of the car with me.

Saturday after we did our chores with Dad, and walked the back fields with Mom we all got in the car and went to another lake and went for a long walk.  It was soooooo windy but the sun felt so good.  We should have put sun screen on because Mom got a little sun burned.  Dad wanted to get the energy out of me so we took off running for a bit.  Ruthie being older stayed behind with Mom.   Back at home Ruthie and I were pooped from all of the outings and we fell asleep before bed time.
