Labor Day Weekend

I heard Mom and Dad talking that Labor Day is the last Holiday of the summer.  I hope that doesn't mean swimming in the lake is over.  We have spent the last two days down on the beach swimming and fetching balls and since today is a holiday I think we will get to play some more !!

Mom and Dad had family over yesterday and everyone spent lots and lots of time down on the beach.  I spread my time out playing with just bout everyone but Ruthie really feel in love with a guy named Pete.  She followed him around all night.  Silly pup !!

Mom and Dad got the BBQ grill out and stated a big fire in it and put some really good smelling stuff on it.  Thought it would include Ruthie and I but we got our regular puppy food - just out on the deck though.

After dinner Ruthie and I got some really good HUGS from our cousins.  I heard their Mom say they will sleep good tonight with all of the lake swimming and Mom said we would probably too.  I think Ruthie already started her snoozing before we went in for bed time.

The Dog Days of Summer are winding down and that means NEBRASKA football.  A guy named LITTLE RED  came over - He only visits on football days and hung out in the front yard.  Mom and Dad had a few two legged friends over to watch the game.  I thought maybe some four legged friends might come too but it was not the case.  Ruthie and I stayed upstairs and they all went downstairs but the game must have been exciting since we could hear them hooping it up for about three hours.

HAPPY LABOR DAY !!
From our family here on the Lake !!

Dog Days of Summer

Hi
Wondering where I have been ??  Enjoying a lazy summer at the lake  !!

I LOVE our weekend walks with Mom, Dad and Ruthie.  We walk around the lake then stop at the boat dock and swim.  Dad throws out sticks that we have picked up along the way - I LOVE to run and jump off the dock and fetch mine.  Ruthie is a wimp and just swims out to get hers.   We spend time down on our beach when Mom is down there watering or picking weeds.  Ruthie and I have figured out where the tennis balls are stored so we don't  have to wait for Mom to get them - just to throw them in the lake for us.

Mom's small garden here at the lake has finally started producitng !!  Nothing like when we lived on the farmstead but Mom says she planted the necessities.  Next summer instead of focusing on remodeling of the house Mom will focus on expanding her garden.

Ruthie had to visit the Emergency Doctor.  Mom noticed a small patch of hair that seemed odd so she investigated and found what she called a Hot Spot.  This was on a Friday.  She put some medication on it but the next day it had expanded and Mom was really concerned.  Since it was a Saturday and our regular doctor's office was not open Ruthie had to go to the Emergency one.  When Ruthie was there the Vet notice an even larger hot spot under her chin.  Needless to say - Ruthie is on three meds and NO swimming !!!   Mom is being fair and since Ruthie can't swim - I can't either.  I don't think that is fair but since Mom still doesn 't understand puppy talk it is what it is !!

Mom and Dad are having fun out on the lake but Ruthie and I have to stay up on the deck and watch.  I am counting down the days that we get to go swimming again.  Mom bought special collars for us to wear now that won't harbor icky germs when we swim but the Vet told her to still take off our collars when we are done swimming till we dry off.

Mom is making things in the kitchen that make the house SMELL !!  Something call pickle relish and salsa.  After she is done cooking and canning she burns candles that make the house smell like flowers.  Mom is making cinnamon cucumbers now and the whole house smells wonderful.  I wonder if we will get any ??

Hope you are enjoying your SUMMER  !!  I sure am !!

However - I heard Dad say Little Red and HUSKER Football is around the corner  !

Summer Fun at the Lake

Mom has been soooooo BUSY with all of the contractors who have been coming to the house but last week was the last week of people being here all day and keeping Mom occupied and not able to play with us.  We made up for it this weekend and Mom promised we would have more play time now.

Waiting for Mom to throw the ball !

Here I GO !!

Got it !!

It has been a while since I have blogged so I thought I would just post some old pictures.

I am PROUD to say that I have taken two short car rides and no car sickness.  Ruthie and I went to the Groomers to get our toes done then to the store to get some dog food.  Mom thinks maybe I might be outgrowing it but never say never.  I sure hope she is right !!

Hope everyone is having a GREAT SUMMER and at the end of the day are as sleepy as Ruthie and I!!

KSDS Spring Graduation

The time has come - My other litter mates have received their LETTERS and are starting their process of returning to KSDS Guide/Service College.  Two of my litter mates are going to Washington Kansas today to attend Spring Graduation and then are staying for their Pre-ACT testing. The rest of my mates are returning next weekend.   I am wishing them the BEST of LUCK and sharing a little knowledge from when I went back early to be evaluated -

Student Dorms
Cafeteria
The DORMS are GREAT !!!  The resident assistants are
Health Clinic
Student Spa

wonderful.  The upper classmates will greet you with many barking voices. You get room service, house keeping and these suspended beds to sleep on.  There is a GREAT SPA that even does nails along with an infirmary in case you are not feeling well plus that is where you will get your Pre-School physical.  There will be puppies there in training starting out as freshman just like you along with upper classmates who are about to graduate.  Everyone though is sooooo helpful and will be there to support you when you might be feeling home sick.   There isn't much home work so in the evening you get to head over to the KSDS social and recreational yard to play.  The only caution is the FRESHMAN 15.  I put it on right away.

Out training
When I was there a typical day would start with the wonderful cafeteria person bringing us our food. Again, can you believe we have room service  ?? After that depending on what level of instruction you are in training started. Some in the classroom and some on paws training.  There were puppies with harnesses on walking people with blind folds on, puppies pulling wheel chairs and picking up stuff off of the floor along with puppies opening doors, turning on/off lights and a whole bunch of other stuff.  I spent most of my time on basic obedience with the other freshman puppies when I was there then the dreaded car ride came.

Mom, Deb and Me
Deb took me with her to run errands and within a few minutes car sickness overwhelmed me and we all know what happened after that.  Everyone was sooooo supportive both two legged and four legged but in the end I was released because of the car sickness and now I am with my forever home - My puppy raiser and her family.  I sure miss everyone there and hope to see them soon at Pup Days the annual gathering of puppy raisers each year in the summer.  However, it will be later this year because KSDS was hit by very strong straight winds and had damage to the training facility.

I have started a new chapter in my life and have begun the search for my new mission and purpose. A Dog's life is not complete until they find their purpose and become someone's special forever partner and enhance their life. I am pretty sure it will be here with my family but it will probably come to me in the most unexpected way and unexpected time.

THANK YOU to all of the WONDERFUL people who entered and influenced my life while as a puppy at KSDS and also when I returned to KSDS College. Every one of you will always be in my heart and I will always remember you. May you help all of my classmates find their special purpose and mission and forever partner.

Car Ride and Scary times !

Mom was true to her statement - I took my first car ride after coming back from KSDS Guide/Service School this week however,
it was a little bit before my 2nd birthday which is June 6.  Ruthie and I had appointments at the beauty shop on Friday.  Mom said the new wood floors are coming soon and she wanted our toes and nails done so we will not scratch up the floors plus she had them give us a buzz cut for the summer.  Nothing against Labs but we look more like Labs right now then Goldens.  We even got pretty scarfs to wear and bows in our hair !!

I am sad to report though my car sickness is still going strong !!!  Mom and I were hoping a break in training and car rides that I might outgrow it and get to maybe return to KSDS Guide/Service School and retake my pre-testing ??  The beauty shop is only about 10 minutes from our house and I got car sick twice on the way there.  Mom was very supportive and said she will not make me try again.  I will find my new purpose in my Life Journey just like every dog does and it will be with my forever family I have now.

Remodeling is still going on here at the house.  We also have remodeling on the roads going on now too.  Ruthie and I love to
watch out the front door at all of the action.  Because of the road construction some of the projects in the house had to be pushed back.  No way for the contractors to get to our driveway.

I do have some SAD news to pass on - KSDS College was hit by a tornado or very strong straight winds and had damage to their training facilities. All of the puppies in training in the dorms were Ok along with staff however, training classes for the puppies and the new forever partners who will be coming for training will have to be at another facility for awhile. I sure wish Mom and me lived closer and I didn't get car sick and we could have gone down to KSDS and help with clean up. I even heard they are canceling PUP Days this summer. Mom and me had to miss it last year and was planning on going this summer.  If you would like to help out or made a donation PLEASE click on the link on the on the side bar - It will take you to the KSDS's web site.

It is Memorial Day weekend here in the United States and it doesn't feel like it.  It has been cool  and rainy however, Ruthie and I still got to go swimming yesterday and probably will go again when we go for our weekend walk.  Mom and Dad are planting flowers plus getting Mom's small garden ready to plant a few veggies.  Nothing like the garden we had out at the farmstead but still it is nice to have some fresh veggies over the summer.

Please REMEMBER
